Collateral Examiner – Job Description
Perform detailed complex examinations of financial records, books, and collateral assets—primarily accounts receivable and inventory—of commercial borrowers applying for secured loans.
Evaluate the performance and characteristics of collateral using established audit procedures and a solid understanding of credit risk.
Prepare thorough, accurate, and well-written reports using Microsoft Word and Excel, applying advanced Excel techniques on a daily basis.
Communicate complex financial information and scenarios clearly and confidently, both verbally and in writing, using sound judgment, persuasion, and tact.
Build and maintain strong relationships with existing Cascade Credit Services clients.
Manage scheduling and project planning in partnership with borrowers and lenders.
Accurately track billable hours and document related expenses.
Travel approximately 30% of the time for assignments lasting one to five days, including overnight stays.
Provides guidance and support in training entry-level collateral examiners.
Engage in ongoing professional development and training opportunities.
Participate in annual offsite planning meetings in coordination with the HR Manager.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent. Practical business accounting experience is helpful.
2 years in commercial lending or loan operations with bank or finance company.
Strong customer service orientation with the ability to interact professionally and flexibly with borrower contacts, including CFOs, Controllers, and accounting staff via phone, email, and in person.
Effective communication with lender contacts such as Audit Managers, Credit Administrators, and lending officers at banks and commercial finance institutions.
Ability to explain complex situations and data with clarity, confidence, and diplomacy.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including technical writing.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as other database and data mining tools at intermediate to advanced levels. Skills will be tested.
Self-motivated and capable of working independently while managing time effectively within project budgets.
Strong problem-solving abilities for moderately complex issues. While standard procedures and guidance from senior examiners are available, the role requires independent judgment and initiative.
Accuracy is critical, as errors can significantly affect client relationships, company reputation, and profitability; therefore, the ability to self-edit is crucial.
