Integrated Counselor (CASAC /LMSW / LMHC / LCSW)
Full-Time 40 bours per week
Schedule: M-F, hours TBD
Location: 201 S Union Street Olean, NY 14760

Position Summary

CASA-Trinity is seeking an Integrated Counselor to provide mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) services within our integrated care model. This position promotes whole-person treatment through collaboration with medical, psychiatric, substance use, and peer recovery providers to address clients’ medical, psychiatric, and psychosocial needs.

The Integrated Counselor delivers assessment, counseling, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and care coordination as part of a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities, scope of practice, and level of autonomy vary based on credentialing and licensure. Counselors work collaboratively to support recovery, improve health outcomes, and ensure coordinated care for individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.

Essential Job Functions

  • Conduct assessments, screenings, and treatment planning for individuals with mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Provide individual, family, and group counseling using evidence-based, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented approaches.
  • Deliver crisis intervention, safety planning, substance use education, and relapse prevention services.
  • Collaborate with medical, psychiatric, behavioral health, and peer support staff to provide integrated care.
  • Support client engagement, recovery, and progress toward treatment goals.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in compliance with regulatory and agency requirements.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings, care coordination, quality improvement activities, and ongoing professional development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Role Differentiation by Credential CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor)

  • Functions as an independent practitioner within CASAC scope, providing SUD-specific counseling and relapse prevention services
  • Collaborates closely with licensed clinicians for co-occurring mental health needs
  • May provide mentorship and guidance to CASAC-T staff

LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker)

  • Provides clinical services under supervision of an independently licensed clinician (LCSW or LMHC)
  • Participates in regular supervision and professional development toward independent licensure
  • Supports care coordination, case management, and community referrals

LMHC / LCSW (Independent License)

  • Functions autonomously within professional scope, providing advanced diagnostic, clinical, and therapeutic services
  • Serves as a clinical leader and resource within the integrated care team
  • Provides mentorship, clinical consultation, and supervision to LMSWs and CASAC staff
  • Contributes to program development, staff training, and quality assurance initiatives

Secondary Functions

  • Collaborate with internal and external providers to ensure continuity of care and successful transitions
  • Participate in program development and quality improvement initiatives related to crisis and integrated care services
  • Maintain current knowledge of laws, regulations, and best practices in mental health and substance use treatment
  • Attend required trainings related to crisis intervention, integrated care, and regulatory compliance
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of mental health, substance use disorders, and co-occurring disorder treatment.
  • Understanding of integrated behavioral health and collaborative care models.
  • Knowledge of recovery-oriented and trauma-informed approaches to treatment.
  • Strong assessment, treatment planning, documentation, and clinical reasoning skills appropriate to credential level.
  • Ability to establish effective therapeutic relationships with clients and families.
  • Ability to provide culturally responsive and person-centered care.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Leadership, mentorship, and clinical consultation skills (LMHC/LCSW).
  • Ability to manage caseloads and prioritize responsibilities effectively.

  • Manage crisis situations and function effectively in potentially high-stress environments.
  • Respond appropriately to behavioral health emergencies.
  • Safeguard personal health when exposed to illness or unsanitary conditions and adhere to established safety protocols.

Work Environment

  • Tobacco- and alcohol-free workplace.
  • Work is performed primarily in a clinical and/or office setting.
  • Frequent interaction with clients experiencing mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
  • Participation in multidisciplinary treatment teams and community-based service coordination.

Qualifications Required (All Candidates)

  • Valid New York State credential/licensure in one of the following:
  • CASAC (in good standing with OASAS), or
  • LMSW, LMHC, or LCSW
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (CASAC) or Master’s degree (LMSW/LMHC/LCSW) in a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in behavioral health, substance use, or integrated care settings (CASAC)
  • Valid driver’s license

Additional Requirements by License

  • LMSW: Must work under supervision of an independently licensed clinician
  • LMHC/LCSW: Minimum of three (3) years post-master’s clinical experience preferred

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.

Pay: $26.00 - $36.00 per hour
