ABOUT CASA AND THE PROGRAM ASSOCIATE ROLE:
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) provides a highly specialized volunteer service to abused and neglected children who are in the juvenile court system. CASA is a national organization with over 900 local programs across the country whereby volunteer advocates are recruited, trained, and supervised by program staff. CASA advocates are considered to be the eyes and ears of the court in child abuse proceedings.
The purpose of the Program Associate position is dual-purpose: 1) to assist in the training, assignment, and evaluation of CASA volunteers and closely supervise their work with assigned youth, preparing files for court, advising the judge and/or other program staff on cases assigned to CASA, preparing official documents; 2) to assist with program- specific projects as they relate to comprehensively supporting CASA youth, development and community outreach endeavors, and volunteer recruitment, appreciation, and retention. The Program Associate is under the supervision of the Program Manager or designee and is responsible for achieving quality advocate support and project management.
While this is primarily a traditional office-hours role (EST), the position does require some evening and weekend commitments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise/support volunteers:
- Supervise and mentor assigned volunteers in day-to-day case management
- Assist volunteers in preparation of court reports
- Attend case staffing’s and court hearings with assigned volunteers
- Conduct regular performance evaluations of assigned volunteers and discuss with
Executive Director or Program Manager
- Inform Executive Director or Program Manager of volunteer training needs
- Act as a liaison for volunteers and other case related individuals and/or agencies
Case management:
- Manage case statistics; provide data for requisite reports
- Maintain case files and reports to ensure timeliness and accuracy
- Provide adequate case coverage in and out of court (live and virtual) during volunteer absences or as support is needed
- Clear and responsive written and verbal communication with volunteers and staff
- Assume ownership of cases and provide such clerical support as may be required to meet standards for audits or other oversight activities
Other responsibilities may include:
- Participate in and support projects relative to comprehensive support of CASA youth
- Interface with community and state partners and resource agencies
- Support development and community outreach efforts
- Assist in volunteer recruitment, screening, onboarding, training (initial and ongoing), engagement, and retention
- Participate in bi-weekly program staff meeting
- Participate in monthly all-staff meeting
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in human services or nonprofits preferred.
Experience in the following areas will be given preference: volunteer supervision and management, child welfare, and project management.
Skills necessary for success in this position include interpersonal, organizational, supervisory, written, and oral communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, leadership, and computer/technology. Awareness of community resources available to foster youth and knowledge about current foster care, child abuse, and child advocacy issues is preferred. A Project Supervisor should be energetic, flexible, goal oriented, creative, and resourceful. An ideal candidate will have the ability both to work collaboratively and be self-motivated. Most importantly, they should have a deep sense of mission for social justice and children’s issues.

Salary Range: $45,000 - $47,000/year
