Job Description

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Northwest Arkansas mobilizes community volunteers to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children in foster care. The organization envisions a community where every child has an advocate and the opportunity to thrive. CASA of Northwest Arkansas is on a path over the next three years to expand services to all vulnerable children in foster care so that every child has a voice in court.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and organized individual to coach and support CASA volunteers, ensuring the highest level of advocacy for the appointed children of each CASA volunteer. The Advocate Supervisor manages CASA volunteers with the goal of ensuring that abused and neglected children in the foster care system receive sound advocacy and effective permanency planning. The Advocate Supervisor is responsible for volunteer supervision and coordination of cases.

This individual will have demonstrated expertise, two years or more, in the area of child advocacy (0-21 years of age) and a Bachelor's degree is required. They will be highly skilled in the area of volunteer management, with a natural affinity for coaching and mentoring individuals.

Some evening hours will be required in order to provide support and training for CASA volunteers. This is a full-time position that may require working outside of the office and taking calls when necessary from the volunteers on the caseload.

Duties & Essential Job Functions

  • Evaluates cases and assigns volunteers based on interest, time, skills, and experience to ensure the best outcome for the child(ren.)
  • Works with volunteers in developing a case plan and monitors progress on achieving the goals of the plan.
  • Provides supervision and guidance while monitoring volunteers’ performance on issues of confidentiality, policy, boundaries, and relationships with other professionals.
  • Monitors and evaluates each volunteer’s investigative and advocacy work to ensure that each child in the program receives the highest quality services.
  • Reviews and edits court reports to ensure they are in accordance with established guidelines and criteria, and that they are accurate, goal directed, and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Assists volunteers in the interpretation of psychological evaluations based on assessments, IEP’s, DHS case plans, etc. to ensure that appropriate placements, visitations, medications, and services are provided.
  • Accompanies volunteers to court hearings, meetings or visits as needed or, if required, attends in volunteers’ stead and/or makes appropriate arrangements in volunteers’ absence.
  • Reviews issues and progress on cases with each volunteer, at minimum, monthly.
  • Ensures that each volunteer completes the required in-service hours for continuing education.
  • Completes and reviews an annual written performance evaluation with each volunteer.
  • Maintains relationships with all professionals involved in the case to ensure quality of outcomes and a positive reputation in the community.

Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree REQUIRED
  • Experience in professional and/or volunteer staff supervision preferred.
  • Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics associated with child abuse.
  • Knowledge of the juvenile justice and/or social services system.
  • Availability to work flexible evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a rapport with volunteers to ensure they remain motivated and committed, and to promote retention.
  • Desire and ability to act as dedicated team member.
  • Ability to satisfactorily clear criminal and child abuse registry checks
  • Have transportation and car insurance
  • Demonstrated writing excellence and editorial skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
