Casa Fortaleza SANE Program Overview
Casa Fortaleza is expanding its services through the implementation of a new Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program. This program is designed to provide specialized, coordinated care to survivors of sexual assault.
The program’s mission is to deliver culturally sensitive, safe, and privacy-conscious services to individuals who have recently experienced sexual assault. Care will be provided in collaboration with counseling services, advocacy support, forensic evidence collection, law enforcement, and prosecution to ensure a comprehensive and survivor-centered response.
Program Goals
- Meet the needs of sexual assault survivors by providing immediate, compassionate, and comprehensive forensic evaluation and medical treatment by trained medical professionals
- Alleviate the burden on emergency departments in responding to this unique and complex violent crime
- Provide timely and appropriate medical care for survivors of sexual assault
- Ensure high-quality forensic evidence collection in coordination with law enforcement and partner agencies
- Provide expert testimony to support prosecution efforts as needed
Scope of Work
- Provide medical expertise, guidance, and quality assurance for protocols related to SANE activities, documentation, and training
- Be available to assist the SANE Coordinator and on-call SANE nurses with emergency consultations and/or arrange appropriate backup support
- Participate in monthly SANE meetings with the SANE Coordinator and Executive Director
- Oversee pharmacy standing orders
- Support case chart reviews, SANE evaluations, quality assurance activities, and personnel-related issues as needed
- Maintain a current New Mexico medical license in good standing
- Maintain individual medical malpractice insurance and all required professional certifications
On-Call / Availability Expectations
- Provide limited, as-needed consultation for urgent clinical questions
- Collaborate with the program to establish reasonable response times and backup support
- Availability expectations will be mutually agreed upon to ensure sustainability and quality care
Estimated Time Commitment
- Approximately 5–10 hours per month, with occasional additional hours for consultation or program development
Salary : $1,000 - $3,000
