After School Teacher

Casa dei Girasoli Montessori School is an established and licensed Montessori school in North Charleston, SC. We are seeking someone who is passionate and excited about early childhood development and care! Under the direction of the Lead Curriculum Guide and Director, the After Care Counselor is responsible for planning and organizing after school activities, preparing and serving snacks, caring for children, maintaining tracking and ratios, and closing duties as outlined by the director and lead teachers.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Provide a warm and caring atmosphere for students

Maintain a safe environment for students

Develop and plan or coordinate activities that incorporate program goals into the daily routine

Coordinate and/or schedule enrichment activities

Prepare activities that are developmentally appropriate for the age of the children

Communicate with the parents through online messaging platform and/or at pick-up

Maintain records of attendance

Attend staff meetings as needed

Maintain a positive attitude toward Casa dei Girasoli director and teachers

Report any problems which arise with participants, other employees, or the school to the director

Responsibilities for all activity and room preparations for the program:

Keep the room neat and orderly.

Keep storage area orderly and well inventoried

Request supplies for the program from the director

Assist with acquiring purchase orders and obtaining program supplies

Follow and enforce school policies and procedures

Proactive response to any issues and concerns regarding the school

Marginal Functions:

Make recommendations to the Director for improvement on equipment, supplies, facility and program needs

Prepare classroom for After-Care

Closing duties as outlined by director

Be flexible and adaptable to new situations

Candidates must:

Hold at least a high school diploma or equivalent AND 18 years of age

Have at least one (1) year experience in a child care position

○ Special consideration for anyone who has 6 months experience in a licensed childcare facility OR in a Montessori classroom

Reliable, self-motivated and independent

Have an interest and passion for working with children ages 3 and older

Treat all children and staff as individuals worthy of love, respect and support

Utilize positive discipline techniques

Uphold the values of Casa dei Girasoli and the Montessori Philosophy

Maintain positive relationships with parents and caregivers

Maintain safety of students and staff outlined by DSS and/or Casa dei Girasoli Montessori School policies; including mandatory training hours

Have reliable transportation

Pediatric First Aid/CPR certified; or willingness to be certified upon hire

Monday through Friday, 2:30pm-6pm with the potential to earn up to (20) hours weekly.

Flexible scheduling allows the teacher to act as an aide during regular school hours as needed, participate in events and light administrative work. Casa dei Girasoli operates on a year-round school schedule, including federal holidays and extended, paid breaks consistent with a traditional school calendar. Casa dei Girasoli staff will often be on campus for meetings and classroom needs, but staff members should be able to run After Care mostly independently.
