Pay Range

$34.50 – $50.54 per hour

The compensation range listed above represents the good-faith range Cary Medical Center anticipates relying upon when making an offer for this position. Starting pay is determined based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, certifications, internal equity, and market conditions.

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in alignment with the ANA Standards of Clinical Practice and the Maine Nurse Practice Act. This role requires demonstrated competence in nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The RN serves as a clinical leader, promotes patient advocacy, and supports the learning needs of staff and students. Collaboration is essential, and the RN works closely with all disciplines to ensure safe, effective, and efficient patient care that leads to optimal outcomes. The RN upholds the organization’s mission and vision, provides age- and culturally-appropriate care, and meets all organizational and unit standards.

Essential Duties:

  • Completes admission assessment and recognizes actual and potential health problems.
  • Interprets clinical and diagnostic data with evidence of recognition of deviation from norm. (Differentiates between clinically significant and insignificant data.) Expedite intervention.
  • Takes appropriate action when assessment and/or lab and diagnostic data is abnormal or significant.
  • Prioritize individual patient needs, and documents care provided to patient.
  • Initiates problem list and adjusts as patients' needs change, within 24 hours of admission, adjust problem list as goals are met and/or new problems occur.
  • Supports multidisciplinary involvement in the plan of care, communicates with case manager and other disciplines addressing patient needs, problems, and response to interventions. Document interactions.
  • Demonstrates a systematic approach to care and treatment, consistently demonstrates and documents a logically planned sequence of actions and activities to expedite intervention.
  • Administers care according to established nursing standards and hospital policy, actions reflect use of critical thinking, knowledge of nursing science and good judgment.
  • Completes medically ordered interventions, follows orders when appropriate, withholding actions on questionable orders when seeking clarification in a timely manner. Collaborate with charge level RN/supervisor to seek clarification.
  • Accountable for safe administration of medication and IV therapy according to nursing standards and hospital policy. Administered accurately, following the "5 rights" and any safe medication practices implemented. Patient response observed, reported, and documented. Site observed and site care given as per policy, document appropriately.
  • Recognizes adverse/critical changes in patient condition and acts appropriately to initiate intervention. Administers supportive care until help arrives, or orders received. (Demonstrates correct use of paging and fire alarm system. Able to function (unless
  • Formulates and/or updates teaching plan for patient/family that is appropriate to their needs. Readiness to learn. Family included in teaching when possible.
  • Functions effectively in the charge role. Ensures staff is assigned according to level of experience/scope of practice. Ensure routine shift checks are completed and documented. Ensure narcotic count is performed and documented completely. Modifies patient assignment in response to admissions, discharges, transfers and changes in patient acuity.
  • Responds appropriately to workload changes. Recognize when own workload exceeds time/ability to complete and obtains assistance (notifies charge for reassignment, delegates tasks, asks for assistance from co-workers, etc.) so that continuity of care is maintained.
  • Coordinates activities with other departments to ensure smooth transition from one unit to another, collaborates with Admitting Office and other units to assign rooms for admissions or transfers, and coordinates transfers with charge nurses on other units.
  • Communicates pertinent information at shift report, and ensure that reports are organized and completed in a timely manner (not to exceed½ hour).
  • Meets the identified organizational requirements, work habits & promotes a collaborative & cooperative work environment.

Requirements:

Licenses and Education:

  • Maintain a current RN Maine license.
  • Maintains current BLS, and ACLS.
  • Meets the unit's annual competency training requirements.
  • Completes basic cardiac course within 1st year of hire.

Availability:

  • Depending on department staffing needs, you may be asked to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
