What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Deputy Sheriff - Part Time 20 hours/week position at Carver County?
The Carver County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for a part-time .5 FTE Deputy Sheriff position, working as a court security/bailiff and transports deputy. This position typically works 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on a fixed five-day schedule consisting of the following: Work Wednesday through Friday / off Saturday and Sunday / work Monday and Tuesday. Employees in this position work approximately 40 hours in a two-week pay period, and may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Under general supervision of the Sergeant/Shift Supervisor, a Deputy Sheriff performs duties to enforce federal, state and local laws; execution of court orders, serving legal documents, warrant execution, investigation of crimes, protection of the citizens of the County; and promote public safety.
The starting rate of pay for this position is $43.31 per hour. Applicants with sworn law enforcement experience may be eligible for elevated rates of pay based on review of qualifications.
This position is eligible for PT benefits, including single health insurance and prorated sick/vacation time.
In-person interviews for this position will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at the Chaska Justice Center.The primary responsibility of this position is to perform duties including courtroom security, maintaining entry checkpoint security, warrant arrests/transports, prisoner transfers, mental health and medical transports, and any other duties of Deputy Sheriff as assigned by the Sergeant/Shift Supervisor.

- Associates Degree or two-year Technical Certificate in Law Enforcement or related field
- Must possess or be eligible to possess a Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) License
- Valid Minnesota Driver's License or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment
