Carver County is seeking dedicated and compassionate Law Enforcement Crisis Responders/Therapists to join our collaborative, community-centered team. Under the direction of the Sheriff's Office with clinical supervision provided by the Behavioral Health Clinical Services Manager, the Law Enforcement Crisis Responder/Therapist is responsible for providing complex professional mental health services that are responsive to both public safety and mental health needs of people within Carver County. This includes responding to mental health crisis situations simultaneously with law enforcement officers by providing therapeutic interventions including de-escalation, mental health risk assessment, crisis stabilization and resource/referral services. Responsibilities may include conducting diagnostic assessments which may involve responding to mental health crisis of clients in high-risk environments. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by bridging mental health care and public safety within our community.

This is a part-time position and will work 10 hours per week. Shifts include M-F from 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. and 5-10 hour shifts on alternating Saturdays and Sundays. 

This is a safety-sensitive position.
  • Responds to mental health crisis situations in conjunction with law enforcement officers by providing mental health diagnostic assessments, and risk assessments.
  • Provides psychological evaluations, which includes diagnosis; administering testing; interpreting results; and providing recommendations to address issues to involved parties. 
  • Provides therapeutic intervention via face-to-face and telephonic interaction for crisis stabilization; conducts follow-up treatment; prepares documentation per regulations.
  • Performs crisis stabilization to ensure the safety and success of continuity of care.
  • Prepares clinical documentation, reports, and/or correspondence, which includes intake packets; treatment plans; progress notes; treatment reviews; court documents; clinical charts; and other related paperwork.
  • Reviews and analyzes program impacts while assisting in the development and expansion of the law enforcement and mental health co-responder program. Present information on program to Division Director and County Sheriff.
  • Works collaboratively with law enforcement to participate in/on a variety of meetings, committees, community initiatives, and other outreach related activities to provide education on mental health issues.
  • Provides liaison services with families and the court system, which includes meeting with both parties in person, through phone calls, and via correspondence; and may provide expert witness testimonies.
  • Provides training and education to Sheriff's Office employees on variety of mental health areas.
  • Performs other duties of similar nature or level.
  • Licensed as a Mental Health Professional in the State of Minnesota (LICSW, LPCC, LP, LMFT, or related license.)
  • Master's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or related area.
  • Two years of post-professional licensure experience.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must be able to successfully pass Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check, including CJIS fingerprinting.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain eligibility to provide direct care to clients in accordance with Minnesota Statutes §245C.03. 
  • Must not be included on the Federal Exclusions List or the Minnesota Excluded Providers List.
  • Ability to obtain National Provider Identifier number (NPI).
  • Must be approved for private and public insurance provider status within 3 months of obtaining independent licensure.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years of post-Master's clinical experience.
  • Two years post-licensure clinical experience in mental health crisis work
  • Experience in a mental health clinic, hospital setting, and/or community-based services.
All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, background investigation including  604 verification and CJIS fingerprinting, and pre-placement health screening.
