What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Environmentalist - Temporary position at Carver County?
The Assistant Environmentalist position involves technical assistance in combination with assisting staff provide customer service at the Environmental Center. Depending on qualifications, candidates may also assist with the implementation and enforcement of the County Solid Waste Ordinance, County Solid Waste Management Plan, and other solid waste related programs. The main focus of the work will be in the solid waste and hazardous waste field.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
• Assisting with the operation of the Carver County Environmental Center, as well as participating in activities such as education programs, accepting and managing various waste streams with an emphasis on customer service.
• Assisting in the management of residential and commercial organics diversion.
• Working with the household hazardous waste and special waste collection programs.
• Supporting staff with various environmental regulatory programs, including but not limited to: investigating solid and hazardous waste complaints, SSTS inspections, industrial waste compliance, rural recycling site support, and feedlot program.
• Support staff with various programs.Candidates should be enrolled or have completed a post-secondary educational program and the ideal candidate should have education in one of the following: solid waste management, environmental science, or other related fields. The Assistant Environmentalist will need to be able to work on projects with little supervision and must be able to collaborate with County staff as well as other Counties or State organizations. The position will spend approximately 75% of their time at the Environmental Center.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and a vehicle available for use during work. A mileage reimbursement will be available.All applications will be screened for minimum qualifications, scored and ranked. The highest ranked candidates meeting minimum qualifications will be recommended for the scored oral examinations (interviews). Final selection for the position will include successful completion of oral interview(s), reference checks, background investigation, and pre-placement physical.
