Position Summary:
The Packaging Plant Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of equipment used to process, package, and prepare salt products for shipment. This hands-on role supports production activities while ensuring quality standards, operational efficiency, and safety compliance are consistently met. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor packaging line equipment, including conveyors, weighing systems, and automated machinery.
- Ensure products are accurately filled, sealed, labeled, and palletized in accordance with established specifications.
- Perform routine quality control checks to verify product weight, packaging integrity, and labeling accuracy.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company policies and OSHA standards.
- Assist with loading and unloading raw materials and finished goods as needed.
- Identify and report equipment malfunctions, safety concerns, or production issues in a timely manner.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting to support continuous operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn and operate new equipment.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in a manufacturing or packaging environment.
- Experience operating automated packaging or bagging equipment (e.g., Hamer systems).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and twist for extended periods.
- Ability to safely work on ladders or elevated platforms as required.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks in a physically active production environment.
- Required use of PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel‑toe boots) in operational areas.
Work Environment:
- Industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to dust, noise, salt, and varying temperatures.
- Fast-paced, team-oriented environment with frequent interaction among production staff.
- Regular overtime, weekend, or shift work may be required based on operational needs.
