As a Key Technician within the Reconditioning Department, you will have the opportunity to support the Inspection Center by operating a mobile Key Van to cut and program keys for inventory vehicles that require access. You will work independently to ensure all units have functional keys to move through the reconditioning process.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Key Production & Programming: Operate specialized key cutting equipment and diagnostic scan tools to cut and program keys/remotes for various vehicle makes and models.
- Mobile Operations: Drive the outfitted Key Van throughout the lot to locate and service units that do not currently have a key.
- Computer & Software Operation: Utilize a laptop and Windows-based software to retrieve key codes and interface with vehicle immobilizer systems (Prompt: Knowledge of Laptop/Computer).
- Inventory Management: Manage the inventory of key blanks, fobs, batteries, and transponders within the Key Van, ensuring supplies are replenished as needed (Prompt: Inventory Management).
- Record Keeping: Accurately track and record all vehicles processed and keys generated during the shift to ensure data integrity (Prompt: Record Keeping).
- Independent Work: Work primarily alone with self-direction to prioritize vehicles in need of keys across the facility (Prompt: Ability to work alone).
- Maintenance: Maintain a clean and productive work environment by keeping the Key Van, tools, and supplies organized.
- Standard Procedures: Follow proper operating rules, procedures, and standardized work initiatives as assigned.
To be able to do your job at Carvana, there are some basic requirements we want to share with you.
- Minimum 6 months of Automotive Technician experience, specifically regarding electrical systems, diagnostics, or key programming, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be able to operate a computer and Windows based software
- Able to work alone and manage time effectively without direct supervision
- Must be able to drive an automobile and possess a valid driver’s license
- Manual dexterity required to handle small components (chips, blades) and tools
- Able to stand, sit, or drive for up to 10 hours a day
- Must be able to get in and out of all vehicle types repeatedly
- Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
- Must be able to work in all elements (heat, rain, wind, snow, etc.)
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- Regular, consistent, and punctual attendance onsite - no remote work allowed
- Ability work variable schedule(s) as necessary to include daily and/or weekly overtime
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
