IT Development Manager

The IT Development Manager leads the organization’s software, database, and business systems development functions. This role is responsible for project delivery, team leadership, and execution of development initiatives that support business operations and strategic priorities.

The IT Development Manager ensures projects are effectively planned, delivered on time and within budget, and aligned with organizational goals. While technically proficient, this position focuses primarily on leadership, coordination, and decision-making rather than serving as the primary hands-on developer. This position directly supervises software developers, database developers/administrators, and business systems development personnel.

 Key Responsibilities:

 Leadership and Development Oversight

• Provide leadership, mentoring, and technical direction to software, database, and business systems developers.
• Oversee the full software development lifecycle, including planning, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
• Foster a collaborative team environment focused on innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Remove obstacles and provide strategic guidance to ensure team effectiveness and productivity.

 Project Management and Execution

• Plan, prioritize, and manage all IT development projects to ensure timely delivery and adherence to budget.
• Partner with business units to gather requirements, define project scope, and establish achievable timelines.
• Track project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to keep projects on schedule.
• Apply structured project management methodologies to improve workflow and execution.
• Ensure alignment between development initiatives and business objectives.

 Software, Database, and Systems Management

• Oversee the development, integration, and ongoing support of business-critical applications.
• Ensure proper database architecture, performance tuning, indexing strategies, and adherence to data security standards and best practices.
• Manage custom software development and enhancements for internal business applications.
• Ensure project align with business goals.

 Budget and Resource Management

• Develop and manage departmental budgets with a focus on cost-effective resource utilization.
• Oversee vendor relationships related to third-party software, tools, and development services.
• Assess and plan for future scalability of development resources and capabilities.

 Compliance, Security, and Best Practices

• Ensure development standards align with security protocols, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.
• Maintain documentation standards, version control practices, and code repository governance.
• Stay informed on emerging technologies to enhance innovation and operational efficiency.
• Partner with the IT Operations Manager to support disaster recovery and business continuity planning.

 Qualifications:

 Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in software development, database management, or IT systems integration.
• Minimum two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience.
• Experience with Microsoft development tools preferred.
• Demonstrated success delivering IT projects on time and within budget.
