What are the responsibilities and job description for the Student Success Advisor position at Carthage College?
Carthage College seeks a Student Success Advisor to provide specialized retention outreach and support services within the Center for Student Success. The Student Success Advisor facilitates Carthage students' successful transition to the College and supports ongoing academic success and persistence through graduation. Center for Student Success staff work closely with other college personnel to holistically address the academic, personal, and social needs of students, with particular focus on supporting underrepresented/underserved student populations. Our focus is ensuring every student graduates.
The Center for Student Success uses a model of holistic advising. We support students using a data-informed, comprehensive approach which leverages the expertise, influence, and resources of campus partners to support student learning and remove barriers to students' success. This case management approach requires Student Success Advisors to build rapport quickly, to connect with campus partners, and to communicate effectively across stakeholder groups.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide high touch, developmental retention outreach and support to approximately 600-650 Carthage students.
- Collaborate with faculty advisors and career specialists to facilitate students' smooth transition.
- Provide case management to increase students' likelihood of academic and personal collegiate success.
- Prepare for and teach assigned sections of College Success Seminar for incoming students.
- Coordinate designated special project areas.
- Establish timelines and roles, develop programming, evaluate effectiveness and make recommendations for future improvement.
- Maintain timely and accurate recordkeeping of outreach and student meetings, College Success Seminar attendance, special project area data, and other data points for departmental.
- Support the Center staff in professional development.
- Position may require shared supervision of a limited number of Peer Mentors/Coaches and/or other paraprofessional staff.
Qualification Requirements:
- Master's Degree in higher education leadership, counseling, or related field.
- Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Requires the ability to build rapport and utilize tact and proper judgment.
- Appropriately enforce the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and Title IX Amendment of 1972.
- Requires the ability to use standard office equipment and technology.
- A minimum of three months of experience in student success, retention programming or academic advising is preferred.
- Experience working with underrepresented/underserved populations is preferred.
- Experience with Workday, EAB Navigate, and Microsoft Excel are highly valued.
