State-Wide Sports Director

Position Overview
The State-Wide Sports Director will oversee all aspects of our sports department, managing both the creative and technical sides of our radio and video broadcasts. This role requires a strategic thinker who can build strong community relationships, manage a distributed team of talent, and ensure our audience receives seamless, high-quality sports coverage both on-air and online video streaming.
Key Responsibilities
- Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with athletic directors, coaches, and school administrators across all Carter Media listening areas.
- Scheduling & Planning: Create, coordinate, and manage comprehensive state-wide sports broadcast schedules for both regular season and postseason events.
- Team Leadership: Recruit, hire, train, and manage a talented team of sports reporters, play-by-play announcers, camera operators, and technical crew members.
- Broadcast Operations: Oversee the technical execution of all video streams and radio broadcasts, ensuring high production value and troubleshooting any technical issues.
- Digital Growth: Drive the expansion of Carter Media’s sports presence on social media platforms and online channels through engaging highlights, reels, articles, and real-time updates.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 3 years of experience in sports broadcasting, media management, or a related field (experience in a directorial or managerial role is highly preferred).
- Technical Savvy: Strong understanding of radio and video broadcast equipment, live-streaming software, and production workflows.
- Leadership: Proven ability to scout talent, manage remote teams, and coordinate multiple live events simultaneously.
- Communication: Exceptional networking and interpersonal skills to represent Carter Media positively within school communities.
- Digital Media Expertise: Proficient in content creation and social media strategy (Instagram, X/Twitter, TikTok, YouTube) to boost audience engagement.
- Flexibility: Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings and weekends, to align with school sports schedules.
