Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Finance, this position oversees the accounts payable and payroll functions for the health system.
Qualifications
- Required
- Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Finance, Business, or healthcare related field
- 2 years’ experience in a Supervisor or Managerial role in an accounting/payroll office
- 3-5 years’ experience in Accounting and or Payroll
- Experience with multi-state payroll and an understanding of various state payroll compliance
- Understanding of Accounting principles
Essential Functions
Oversee the staff responsible for accounts payable and payroll functions.- Monitors work loads of staff for effectiveness and areas of improvement.
- Acts as a mentor and role model for others
- Responsible for coordination of successful orientation of staff members. Develops orientation tools.
- Facilitates and participates in planning, changes and improvements. Utilizes knowledge of the Performance Improvement Cycle to improve work processes.
- Provides information, assistance, and audit work papers, as assigned to external auditors.
- Oversees reports regarding cash flow; ensures correct payments are made in a timely manner.
- Develops guidelines for proper handling and coding of invoices to maintain general ledger expense account and inventory records.
- Analyzes expense reports and other invoices for accuracy and eligibility for payment.
- Reconciles accounts payable total and general ledger with other applicable records (e.g., subsidiary vendors ledger).
- Facilitates correct and timely preparation of budget reports and purchase journals.
- Ensures proper recordkeeping of purchases for use in tax preparation and periodic audits.
- Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
- Enhances the public image of the department and the hospital
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
