GENERAL SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Fleet Manager, provides mechanical support to the fleet mechanics and performs various basic tasks and minor repairs to the fleet vehicles.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspects fleet vehicles to determine if it meets the mechanical standards as established by the Fleet Manager.
- Maintains a listing of vehicles needing repairs to their physical appearance both inside and outside. For example: wheels, paint repairs, mud-flaps, etc.
- Reviews the DVIR’s submitted by the drivers and completes any needed repairs. Notifies Fleet Manager of any major problems with the vehicle.
- On a daily basis, documents the type/amount of parts and labor expended on completed and on-going work orders
- Fuels and washes the fleet vehicles as needed
- Completes minor vehicle repairs as instructed
- Assists the Fleet Journey & Master Mechanics with repairs and projects.
- When necessary, transports drivers & mechanics to/from vehicle repair facilities and drives to vendor locations to pick up needed vehicle parts
- Maintains a safe work environment by following company/departmental safety practices and procedures.
- Operates various garage equipment including a forklift.
MISCELLANEOUS FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other tasks & duties as assigned or required.
- During peak business periods and/or extreme weather conditions, may be required to work an atypical schedule or work in other capacities within the organization.
Qualifications
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Maryland Driver’s License, Class B CDL preferred
- Ability to effectively verbally communicate with co-workers
- Ability to understand, comprehend and follow basic directions and pay attention to detail.
- Must be able to periodically work independently.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequent exposure to unpleasant working conditions including moderate to high noise levels, dust and dirt, lubricant/petroleum products and exposure to inclement weather (rain/snow, cold, heat).
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time (8-10 hours).
- Frequent bending, lifting, carrying, pulling/pushing of items weighing 50 lbs. and above.
