Pay Rate:
$15.03 - $22.55 per hour

The initial compensation for this position generally falls between $15.03 and $15.78, contingent upon relevant experience and qualifications.
Schedule:
Average hours are 9 per week or less, with a flexible schedule that may vary.
All schedules are based on the needs of the library.
Must be able to work day, evening, and weekend hours.
Must be 16 years of age or older to work the evening schedules.
This is a year-round positon.

Job Summary:
Performs shelving, shelf maintenance, and a variety of other duties related to the organization and retrieval of library materials; works under direct supervision; performs circulation duties and assists customers; performs other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
1. Provides quality customer service by assisting customers in locating materials, library services or programs, meeting rooms, etc.
2. Accurately shelves materials, ensuring they are in the appropriate order and collection.
3. Maintains accurate, neat shelves, by performing shelf reading as needed or as scheduled, straightening or shifting materials, checking the condition of items, and reshelving stray materials.
4. Refills displays, merchandising materials.
5. Locates and accurately processes requested materials for delivery.
6. Provides customer service by checking materials in and out, registering customers for programs, answering the telephone, receiving cash for fees, etc.
7. May also participate in library teams or committee work, outreach activities, training, etc. when appropriate to their work.
8. May undertake training to serve as a passport agent.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Working knowledge of the Dewey Decimal system and the basic principles of library organization.
2. Ability to sort materials in alphabetical or numerical order.
3. Attention to detail.
4. Working knowledge of library circulation guidelines and policies.
5. Effective communication skills.
6. Commitment to excellent internal and external customer service.
7. Familiar with relevant computer equipment and associated software applications.
8. Keyboarding skills.
Education and Experience:
1. Ninth grade education.
2. Customer service experience is preferred but not required.
