Join our team of educators at Exploration Commons at 50 East! We're hiring a motivated candidate to join our team to share their passion in the makerspace with our thriving local community. Maker and/or technology experience is a must; candidates can expect to create and facilitate digital design-focused programming, stay up-to-date on skills pertaining to the machinery in our makerspace, work closely with local community groups and support workforce development, as well as assist with daily tasks to provide excellent customer service to guests at Exploration Commons.

Hours and Salary:
28 hours per week
Must be able to work day, evening and weekend hours

Experience Design Specialist I: $31,449.00 - $50,319.36 annually plus benefits
The initial compensation for this position generally falls between $31,449.00 and $33,022.08, contingent upon relevant experience and qualifications.

Experience Design Specialist II: $34,216.00 - $54,745.60 annually plus benefits
The initial compensation for this position generally falls between $34,216.00 and $35,926.80, contingent upon relevant experience and qualifications.

Essential Functions:

  • Incorporates excellent customer service skills and finds solutions to Exploration Commons related questions.
  • Plans, prepares, and presents training on Exploration Commons resources (makerspace, kitchen, and meeting rooms) for individuals and groups, ensuring safe operation.
  • Conducts programs in the makerspace, kitchen, or meeting rooms on a variety of topics.
  • Provides project management for long-term, larger scale projects or initiatives.
  • Operates all audiovisual equipment in all meeting rooms.
  • Maintains Exploration Commons equipment, including basic maintenance and repair, installing and updating software and applications, etc.
  • Maintains 3D printers and supports centralized 3D printing service.
  • Maintains and provides systemwide support for maker equipment (3D printers and VR gear).
  • Creates content and examples to showcase applications of new technology at CCPL.
  • Provides supervision and oversight for volunteers and interns.
  • Serves on committees and participates in workshops, seminars, and training as requested.
  • Learns new skills and technologies to retain proficiency in areas of expertise via online and in-person training.
  • Works with community partners for program and content creation.
  • Maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots kitchen equipment.
  • Maintains high quality standards of products and services.
  • Performs other duties as instructed and assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Commitment to excellent customer service.
  • Ability to create and tailor instruction based on individual need and experience.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Must be a self-starter and motivated to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to design new objects using CAD and other available design software.
  • Ability to learn kitchen maintenance responsibilities and operate all equipment.
  • Ability to learn the use of all equipment located in the makerspace and be able to provide; basic training on all equipment.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all staff.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize duties/responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Education and Experience:

I: High School diploma/G.E.D. and 1-2 years directly related experience; Associate degree or college coursework in a related field preferred.

OR

II: Bachelor’s Degree and 1 – 2 years directly related experience.

Requires 90 contact hours of approved in-service training through Library Associate Training Institute (LATI) within first 2 years of employment or 9 hours of formal academic course work in library science.

AND

  • Instructional experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with design software (Adobe Creative Cloud and Autodesk).
  • Familiarity with the makerspace and/or kitchen equipment.
  • Highly effective communicator via email, telephone, and in person.
