Job Summary
The Probation Officer plays a crucial role in the criminal justice system by supervising individuals placed on probation, ensuring compliance with court-ordered conditions, and facilitating their rehabilitation. Duties
- Monitors the conditions of probation as set forth by the Court of Carroll County and report any violations to the State’s Attorney Office.
- Supervise and counsel defendants placed under his/her supervision in order to achieve successful completion of court ordered terms.
- Prepare and coordinate all information related to the defendant’s case in order to provide factual information in a timely and accurate manner.
- Maintains office and home visit contact per supervision level established by the completion of the ARA/JRA tool.
- Develop, review, and modify case plans with each supervised individual as established following the ARA/JRA tool.
- Conducts and completes CCP recordings per policy.
- Collects information from minors, parents, police, schools, and social service personnel to formulate background history on referred minors.
- Writes social investigations and/ or sentencing reports for use at sentencing and review hearings.
- Perform on call duties as directed.
- Maintains an accurate and timely record of all information related to probation cases under his/her supervision.
- Refers defendants to community social service agencies and advocates for necessary services from the agencies in a timely and appropriate manner and monitors progress through regular contact with said agency.
- Testifies in court as required by the State’s Attorney’s Office or the Judge.
- Comply with all applicable statutes and keep abreast of current developments in the area of probation.
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with allied agencies and other interested groups within the community.
- Assesses on a continuous basis method to improve service delivery.
- Attend/participates in staff meetings
- Adhere to all AOIC/Court Services policy and procedures.
- Performs special projects and are responsible for successful completion of directives as specified by the Director/Supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities acquired through the completion of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and fulfillment of requirements as defined by the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts hiring list.
- Must possess writing skills necessary to complete reports for use by the Court and other professionals.
- Must possess all communication and negotiation skills necessary to elicit information from probationers as well as communicate needs of minors to other service providers.
- Requires interpersonal sensitivity to cultural and environmental differences found in defendants from a variety of caseload population as well as the work culture.
- Requires planning, organizational, and time management skills necessary to prioritize a varied workload, prepare reports, and evaluate probationers’ progress through the term of their supervision and meet necessary deadlines.
- Requires planning, organizational, and time management skills necessary to prioritize a varied workload, complete investigations relative to information supplied by the client (and family) during the interview, and follow up with unverified information in a timely manner in order to complete the investigative reports and submit them to court
- Requires analytical decision-making skills and problem-solving skills in order to deliver casework supervision and follow departmental policy and procedures relative to the performance of the position.
- Requires fact-finding ability in order to complete reports, comply with applicable statutes, and compile monthly statistical reports.
- Ability to transport oneself in order to accomplish job performance requirements as dictated by Court Services policies and procedures, and AOIC requirements.
- Requires working knowledge of Illinois Statutes, and local practice of the Adult/Juvenile Court
- Require working knowledge of Word and Excel necessary to meet departmental deadlines.
