Description
Under close supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of sewers
Examples of Duties
Essential Functions: Crawls through and/or lamps sewers to locate damage and cause of difficulties; cleans sewer pipe, inlets, creeks and other structures; troubleshoots customer problems and takes corrective actions; interfaces with computerized maintenance management and mapping systems; operates a variety of sewer maintenance equipment including TV inspection, hydroflushing/vactoring equipment and a variety of specialty and hand tools; successful completion of the program will necessitate performing training duties in accordance with set District journeyman standards; in addition to the performance of the above duties, the trainee will become familiar with identifying problem severity, and running locates for excavation requests; operates and maintains trucks and other equipment; meet the requirements of the training program as set for by the Collection Systems Operator Trainee – Maintenance Program Policy and Procedure Manual.”
Additional Responsibilities: May perform related work as required or as delegated by supervisors.
Minimum Qualifications
Suggested Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent and the ability to attain a passing grade on a written test of related skills/aptitude to enter a two year MSD Collection Systems Operator Apprenticeship Training Program.
Desirable Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Ability to perform heavy manual labor; ability to work outdoors in all kinds of weather; ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions; ability to use simple hand tools and equipment; ability to secure a Commercial Driver's License and to operate a limited variety of other mechanical equipment; ability to prepare simple records and reports; ability to read, comprehend and pass exams given on Collection Systems Operator Trainee-Maintenance training program materials and manuals; working knowledge of safe work practices; working knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in vehicle operations.

Must possess or obtain within 30 days of hire a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License issued by the state in which the employee resides.
