Department: Montana Watershed Coordination Council
Purpose of Job: We are seeking a student to engage with our staff throughout the fall and spring semesters to further our outreach and communication efforts. This person will be a talented communicator passionate about crafting compelling messages, engaging with diverse audiences, and shaping our brand personality.
The Montana Watershed Coordination Council (MWCC) provides critical resources to Montana’s watershed organizations and conservation partners. We do this by connecting, supporting, inspiring, and representing watershed conservation leaders throughout the state. By providing training, events, funding, networking, and awareness, we strengthen watershed conservation efforts to support healthy and productive landscapes in Big Sky country. Duties and Responsibilities:
Event Planning – 30%
- Help table at local events (ArtWalk, Old Salt Festival, Wild Wings, etc.) and events where MWCC is supporting the Montana Wetland Council.
- Support staff in planning upcoming events locally and statewide (Annual Meeting, Watershed Tour).
Communications – 65%
- Collaborating with staff in creating, editing, and distributing engaging content across various platforms, including press releases, newsletters, social media, and the company website.
- Support the 2027 State of the Watershed Report process.
- Tracking metrics and collaborating with staff to create reports.
- Researching and setting up new methods of outreach.
Administrative- 5%
- Assist the Executive Director with various administrative tasks.
Qualifications:
Required
- Ability to communicate clearly through written and oral, formal and informal, electronic and traditional means.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Capability to work independently or collaboratively.
Desired
- Interest and/or knowledge of natural resource topics within the State of Montana, including conservation activities, policy environment, and agricultural and other landowner communities.
- Knowledge of social media management, digital marketing, and SEO practices.
- Familiarity with the latest tools and platforms, including social media, content management systems, and graphic design software.
- Ability to create and edit videos.
