Each year, the Carroll Center for the Blind helps nearly 1,300 blind or visually impaired children, adults and senior citizens gain the skills they need to live active and fulfilling lives. Our Newton campus houses our rehabilitation program, computer training classes, low vision store, and administrative offices. A large portion of our programs are services conducted in public schools, students’ homes, and their communities.

About the Role
As the Director of Education Services, you will serve as both a visionary and a hands-on leader, guiding the delivery of exceptional itinerant services for students from early childhood through young adulthood. You’ll lead a dedicated team of professionals across public and private school settings, ensuring services are consistent, impactful, and responsive to each student’s academic and developmental needs. At the same time, you’ll build a thriving, mission-driven workforce through intentional recruitment, mentorship, and professional development. This role sits at the intersection of leadership, advocacy, and innovation—partnering with school districts, families, and educators to strengthen inclusive practices and improve outcomes for students with diverse needs.
What You’ll Do:
Strategic Leadership & Operational Excellence
Set the vision and direction for high-quality itinerant TVI services across diverse educational environments
Oversee daily operations, ensuring excellence in service delivery, staffing, and IEP compliance
Use data and insights to continuously improve programs and student outcomes
Serve as a trusted liaison between school districts, families, and agencies—ensuring strong communication and coordinated support
Build & Inspire an Exeptional Team
Lead recruitment efforts to attract top-tier Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs)
Cultivate partnerships with universities to develop a strong pipeline of future professionals
Provide hands-on coaching, mentorship, and supervision to support staff growth and retention
Design and deliver impactful professional development in assistive technology, curriculum, and best practices
Build meaningful relationships with Special Education leaders and community stakeholders
Champion innovative, inclusive practices that elevate student success
Support staff in presenting at regional and national conferencesGrow program visibility and referrals through strategic networking and engagement
Collaborate across teams to support signature events like Braille Challenge and Cane Quest
Expand Impact Through Outreach & Advocacy
Build meaningful relationships with Special Education leaders and community stakeholders
Champion innovative, inclusive practices that elevate student successSupport staff in presenting at regional and national conferences

What You’ll Need
Master’s degree in Education of Students with Visual Impairments, Special Education, or a related field.
Preferred certification: Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
Extensive experience teaching students with visual impairments (ages 3–21), preferably in itinerant or inclusive settings.
Demonstrated leadership in educational program management, including staff supervision, and compliance.
Strong working knowledge of assistive technology, IEPs, specialized curriculum, and current best practices in the field of vision education.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Experience collaborating with school districts, higher education institutions, and external agencies.

Salary : $120,000 - $130,000
