Maintenance Assistant

Job Summary:

Join our Carriage House Nursing and Rehab team as a Maintenance Assistant! We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to supervise the day-to-day activities of our Maintenance Department and ensure compliance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing our facility.

Responsibilities:

• Supervise and coordinate the daily maintenance functions of assigned personnel

• Develop procedures for performing daily maintenance tasks

• Coordinate daily maintenance services with Nursing Services when performing maintenance assignments in resident living and/or recreational areas

• Ensure that work schedules are followed as closely as practical

• Perform administrative requirements (i.e., completing necessary forms, reports, etc.)

• Submit accident/incident reports to the Administrator on the shift in which they occurred

• Ensure resident safety

• Present a positive image of the facility to all customers, such as job applicants, families, and the community

Additional Responsibilities:

• Implement recommendations from the Infection Control and Safety Committees

• Attend department and staff meetings as directed or called

• Report daily absenteeism and tardiness

• Meet with assigned personnel to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or improving services

• Review and evaluate the work performance of assigned personnel

Requirements:

• Technical school education of HVAC theory and repair

• Thorough knowledge of HVAC repair, carpentry, electrical theory, plumbing, low voltage alarm systems, and department management experience

• Ability to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner

• Leadership ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise non-professional personnel

• Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the program, goals, objectives, policies, procedures, etc. of the Maintenance Department

• Ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing maintenance practices

• Ability to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively and tactfully with residents, personnel, visitors, general public, and outside agencies

• Weekend rotation required

Work Environment:

• Works throughout the facility (i.e., power rooms, resident rooms, therapy rooms, dietary, etc.)

• Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours

• Is subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule maintenance activities

• Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions/circumstances

• Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc.
