What are the responsibilities and job description for the Checker Loader (Forklift Operator) position at Carpenter Co.?
Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Checker Loader (Forklift Operator) in our Carpet Cushion Department, at our Richmond Plant location (2400 Richmond Highway, Richmond VA 23234). Checker Loaders are responsible for safely and efficiently unloading/loading trucks and performing final quality check on finished product and load on trailer per customer requirements. This position plays a vital supply-chain role by ensuring inventory is efficiently moved through the manufacturing plant while strictly adhering to workplace safety standards and paperwork.
This position is Monday through Friday, 1st Shift (6:00am to 2:30pm). Additionally, in order to meet production needs, all employees in our manufacturing industry are expected to work more than 8-hour shifts and on weekends (if needed).
Essential Functions
- Load trucks in proper sequence.
- Check loading tickets.
- Lockout trailers after loading and unlock once loading is complete.
- Use forklift to load trailers as needed.
- Record and track information in inventory control system.
- Verify trucks have been loaded properly.
- Move stock in loading area as necessary.
- Inspect trailers for damage.
- Run manifest and bills of lading.
- Handle rolls of carpet cushion up to 80 lbs
- Lock out and chock wheels.
- Must successfully be forklift certified.
- Other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have at least 2 years of experience operating forklift in a manufacturing, chemical, or production environment
- Must be forklift certified and go successfully pass Carpenter Co.'s Forklift Certification process
