Overview
Responsible for daily operations and quality and quantity of work performed throughout the Phlebotomy. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Duties
- Assist in managing laboratory operations, including specimen collection, processing, and storage
- Supervise laboratory staff and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Maintain Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) for accurate data entry and management
- Ensure proper specimen handling, phlebotomy procedures, venipuncture, blood sampling, and vital signs recording
- Monitor laboratory inventory and ensure proper maintenance of equipment and supplies
- Enforce aseptic techniques and laboratory safety protocols to prevent contamination and ensure compliance with health regulations
- Facilitate training of new staff or interns in laboratory procedures and safety practices
- Prepare reports on laboratory activities, assay results, and project progress for management review
Skills
- Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures and medical terminology
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and data management tools
- Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, blood sampling techniques (venipuncture), phlebotomy, vital signs measurement, and aseptic techniques
- Effective communication skills for team supervision and collaboration within multidisciplinary environments
Requirements
- Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Certification: Phlebotomy Certification where State law requires. Completion of formal phlebotomy training program and/or national phlebotomy certification through ASCP, ANP, ASPT or similar preferred.
- Experience: 3 years of phlebotomy or specimen processing (pre-analytic) experience with increasing responsibility in an acute care facility.
