What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Bus Driver position at Caroline County Public Schools?
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Holds Commercial Driver's License with Maryland endorsement for passenger vehicles
- Has five (5) years driving experience
- Complete the pre-service instruction as required pursuant to regulation .07A of COMAR 13A.06.07 and complete future in-service instruction as required in regulation .07B
- Has acceptable driving record
- Meets health and physical requirements as specified by the Board
- Ability to carry out written and/or oral instructions
- Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers, parents and students
- Be at least 21 years of age
- Received a negative controlled substances test result
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Transportation
JOB GOAL: To provide safe transportation for students to and from school educational programs over specified routes within an established time schedule.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Drives a school bus safely and professionally.
- Makes all necessary pre-driving inspections and immediate repairs, if possible.
- Keeps accurate records as required by the Transportation Department.
- Is responsible for knowing and following the Department of Motor Vehicle Laws, Maryland School Bus Laws and Caroline County Requirements.
- Reports any unsafe conditions on the bus route.
- Follows Board procedure for reporting all accidents.
- Participates in all mandatory on-site training.
- Has the bus inspected four (4) times per year as required by the Department of Motor Vehicles and the Caroline County Board of Education.
- Keeps an accurate list of student riders and follows the Board approved route and bus stops.
- Complies with discipline policies set forth in the Caroline County Public Schools Transportation Guidelines Handbook.
- Keeps the bus clean and in excellent operating condition.
- Is available in community during school days for potential emergencies.
- Assists in calling substitute drivers as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Transportation.
SALARY: Based on experience and training according to the pay scale for Bus Driver personnel.
