Job Title - Dockmaster
Status/Class - Salary/Exempt
Reports to the Operations & Waterfront Director
Supervises - Dock Hands & other Dock Personnel
Job purpose
Supervise all activities involving docks, dock area and boats.
Duties and responsibilities
1. Assists Waterfront Director in assigning transient dock spaces to members and guests.
2. Provides assistance to members and guests in getting underway and mooring their boats in accordance with the rules and etiquette of good seamanship.
3. Ensures dock hands are providing all services available in the normal operation of the harbor according to procedures prescribed by the Waterfront Director, including boat washes, launching and hauling of boats, Regatta assistance, boat ramp is cleaned, etc.
4. Continually observes boat traffic in the harbor, challenging non-member boats and directing them to leave the harbor.
5. Ensures dock hands are stationed on docks during busy hours, gate attendant is present during applicable hours, and parking attendants are assisting when necessary – filling these roles personally if needed.
6. Assists with sailing program as necessary.
7. Inspects jet dock slips, lines, etc., daily.
8. Maintains dock reservation log.
9. Maintains log of arrivals and departures of all boats.
10. Performs emergency duties in the event of hurricane, fire, accident or other disaster.
11. Maintains and repairs the docks and dock areas.
12. Maintains and cares for all club-owned boats.
13. Assists race committee in regards to marks, signal flags, etc.
14. Implements boating programs.
15. Trains, supervises, and evaluates all personnel associated with dock area.
16. Records work performed by dock area personnel.
17. Implements seasonal start-up and shut-down activities for dock area.
18. Maintains radio watch on VHF channels during Regattas, when expecting boat arrivals, and while sailing programs are in operation.
19. Maintains marina lighting, power and water.
20. Raises American flag and club burgee at required time.
21. Reports feedback from Members or guests to Waterfront Director or any misconduct of crew members.
22. Attends staff meetings.
23. Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Waterfront Director.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
- Able to meet and perform the physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
- Push, pull or lift 50 pounds.
Requirements
Must have at least 3 years in the same or similar role.
Must have boating experience.
Must have leadership experience.
Must be available to work weekends.
