What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weekend On-Call Part Time Maintenance Technician position at Carolina Mornings?
If you're the person friends and family call when something needs fixing, we'd love to meet you.
Can you troubleshoot a leaky faucet, figure out why an appliance stopped working, or quickly identify what needs to be done when something goes wrong?
We're looking for a hands-on, dependable Maintenance Technician to join our team and provide weekend maintenance support for beautiful vacation homes throughout Western North Carolina.
We're an award-winning vacation rental management company with properties located within about an hour of downtown Asheville. Our maintenance team helps keep those homes in great shape for homeowners and steps in when guests need help with something unexpected during their stay.
This part-time position focuses exclusively on weekend on-call coverage. It's a great opportunity for someone with solid residential repair skills who wants supplemental income without committing to a traditional full-time schedule.
What the job actually looks like
Vacation rental issues don't always happen during business hours. When something goes wrong over the weekend, you'll help determine what's needed and get it taken care of.
You'll:
- Respond to maintenance requests from our Guest Services team
- Troubleshoot problems remotely when possible and determine when an on-site visit is necessary
- Travel to properties to address issues that can't be resolved over the phone
- Handle general residential repairs involving plumbing, fixtures, appliances, and other household equipment
- Communicate professionally with guests and our internal team
- Document issues and completed work using our paperless system on a smartphone, tablet, or iPad
- Drive between vacation homes throughout Western North Carolina when on-site support is needed
Some issues may be resolved with a quick phone call or a little troubleshooting. Others will require you to grab your tools and head to the property.
We're looking for someone who can think on their feet, stay calm when something goes wrong, and work independently to find a solution.
We're looking for someone who...
- Has at least 1 year of experience in residential maintenance, property maintenance, property management, handyman services, or a similar hands-on role
- Is comfortable with common household repairs and troubleshooting plumbing, appliances, fixtures, and other home issues
- Knows their way around basic tools and can determine when a repair is within their skill set
- Is dependable, responsive, and comfortable working independently
- Communicates clearly and has a friendly, professional approach to helping guests
- Can assess a problem and determine whether it can be resolved remotely, requires an on-site visit, or needs to be escalated
- Is comfortable using a smartphone or tablet to communicate and document work
- Has a reliable 4WD truck and basic tools
- Lives within a reasonable driving distance of the properties they'll support
- Is looking for a dependable, ongoing part-time opportunity
Mileage is reimbursed at $0.535 per mile.

- 30-minute dispatch: You must be on your way to the property within 30 minutes of the request, unless you're already handling another call.
