Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Steel Fitter to assist our shop foreman in the management and operations of our new facility in Durham, NC. In this role, you will assist the shop foreman in leadership and management our on fabrication shop, as well as fit and fabricate as needed at one of our 2 fabrications shops. Your expertise will ensure that all components are fabricated and fitted accurately, safely, and efficiently, adhering to project specifications and industry standards. In addition to maintaining operations and taking on management functions within the shop as needed. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects, and develop your management and leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret detailed technical drawings to accurately assemble metal components.
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment (including MIG and TIG), and plasma cutters to cut, shape, and join steel parts according to specifications.
- Operate cranes, forklifts, rigging gear, to handle heavy steel sections safely and efficiently.
- Fabricate structural steel, handrail, ladders, weldments of varying complexity.

- ensure welding tasks follow AWS codes & standards using appropriate techniques such as MIG, TIG, welding.
- Conduct math calculations for measurements, material estimations.
- Track consumables and maintain inventories

- Guide team members at the fabrication shop to complete projects on schedule.
- supervise the shipping and receiving process.
Qualifications
- A hands on leadership approach
- Strong communication skills (spanish language skills are a plus)
- The ability and desire to educate others in the skills of the trade.
- Proven construction site experience with a strong understanding of steel fabrication techniques.
- Proficiency in welding techniques including MIG, SMAW and FCAW
- Skills in TIG GTAW are a plus.
- Ability to read blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and AISC codes & standards confidently.
- Skilled in operating rigging equipment such as cranes and forklifts safely in busy environments.
- Experience with Miscellaneous fabrication, plasma cutting, press brake machines, hand tools & power tools.
- basic math skills for measurements.
- Familiarity with safety procedures related to construction sites or manufacturing facilities.
- Strong work ethic with excellent communication skills; ability to work independently when needed.

Pay: $26.00 - $27.50 per hour
