Position Summary
The HR Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day human resources function at Carolina Foods Inc., including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and HR policy administration. This role partners closely with plant/site leadership and corporate HR to ensure a positive, compliant, and productive work environment for all employees.
Key Responsibilities
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Manage full-cycle recruiting for hourly, salaried, and supervisory positions
- Partner with department managers to forecast staffing needs and develop hiring plans
- Oversee new hire onboarding and orientation programs
Employee Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances
- Conduct investigations into workplace complaints and recommend resolutions
- Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture
Performance & Talent Management
- Administer performance review cycles and coach managers on effective feedback practices
- Support development of career paths and internal promotion pipelines
- Identify training needs and coordinate learning and development programs
Compliance & Policy
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC, OSHA, etc.)
- Maintain and update employee handbook and HR policies
- Manage workers' compensation claims and safety program coordination with EHS team
Compensation & Benefits
- Support annual compensation reviews and benefits enrollment
- Address employee questions regarding pay, benefits, and leave policies
- Partner with payroll to ensure accurate processing of HR-related changes
HR Administration & Reporting
- Maintain accurate employee records in HRIS systems
- Prepare HR metrics and reports for leadership (turnover, headcount, time-to-fill, etc.)
- Support audits and ensure documentation is audit-ready
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- 4-6 years of progressive HR experience, ideally in food manufacturing, CPG, or a related industry
- Strong working knowledge of employment law and HR compliance requirements
- Experience with HRIS platforms (e.g., ADP, Workday, UKG, or similar)
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
Preferred:
- PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification
- Experience supporting a multi-shift or plant/manufacturing environment
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus, depending on workforce demographics
Work Environment
This role typically involves a combination of office-based work and time spent on the production floor. Some flexibility in hours may be required to support multiple shifts.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk production floor areas, which may include exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and food processing environments
- Standard office physical requirements (sitting, computer use, occasional lifting up to 25 lbs)
