Director of Extended Day & Summer Enrichment Programs
Carolina Day School seeks an experienced, energetic, and student-centered leader to serve as our Director of Extended Day & Summer Enrichment Programs. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for the school’s After School Program (Pre-K through Middle School) and Summer Enrichment Programs, ensuring safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experiences for CDS students beyond the traditional school day and year.
Reporting to the Lower School Principal, the Director oversees program design, staffing, operations, budgeting, and family communication for both programs, while collaborating closely with division leadership and school administrators to support students and families.
Program Leadership & Development
Design, implement, and continuously improve high-quality after-school and summer enrichment programming that reflects student interests and developmental needs.
Develop engaging curricula, activities, and workshops (e.g., enrichment, arts, STEM, recreation) that foster growth, curiosity, and community.
Create and maintain clear program structures, schedules, and calendars for both programs.
Evaluate programs using participation data, feedback, and outcomes to inform improvement and future planning.
Operations, Logistics & Administration
Oversee daily operations of the After School Program and seasonal operations of Summer Enrichment Programs.
Manage program budgets, purchasing, billing, payroll coordination, and accurate financial reporting in partnership with the Business Office.
Coordinate facilities usage, supplies, snacks, and materials to ensure safe, clean, and welcoming environments.
Manage registration, attendance tracking, headcounts, and accurate documentation for all programs.
Coordinate care for faculty children during designated professional development days.
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure all programs comply with school policies, emergency procedures, and applicable state or local regulations.
Implement and oversee safety protocols, emergency preparedness, and incident reporting.
Ensure respectful use and care of school facilities, equipment, and property.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all matters involving students, families, and staff.
Staff Leadership & Supervision
Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and supervise program staff and instructors.
Create staff schedules, lead staff meetings, and provide ongoing coaching and support.
Foster a positive, collaborative team culture rooted in professionalism, accountability, and care for children.
Ensure staff adhere to program expectations, policies, and procedures.
Family & Community Engagement
Maintain open, proactive communication with families regarding program logistics, schedules, expectations, and student experiences.
Build strong relationships with parents through daily interactions and ongoing communication.
Address parent questions or concerns with professionalism, clarity, and care.
Support marketing and outreach efforts for Summer Enrichment Programs, including community partnerships and enrollment growth.
Student-Centered Practice
Model positive, respectful interactions with all children.
Maintain consistent supervision and attendance accountability.
Use positive discipline strategies that emphasize teaching, redirection, and clear expectations.
Ensure safe and authorized release of students to caregivers.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience working with students in educational, enrichment, or childcare settings.
Demonstrated experience in program operations and leadership.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, families, and staff.
