Hiring a full-time Physician Assistant (PA) for a specialized practice combining Gastroenterology (GI), General Surgery, and Colorectal Surgery.
1. Key Responsibilities (Surgical & Medical Split)
• Surgical/Hospital Responsibilities (Colorectal & General):
• First Assist in Surgery: Including abdominal cases (colectomy, appendectomy, hernia repair) and anorectal procedures (hemorrhoidectomy, fistula repair).
• Inpatient Rounding: Perform daily patient rounds, write orders, monitor pre- and post-operative patients, and manage drains/wounds/ostomies.
• Discharge Planning: Coordinate hospital discharge, ensuring patient education and follow-up care is arranged.
• Clinic/Medical Responsibilities (GI & Colorectal):
• Perform comprehensive History & Physical (H&P) exams for new and established patients.
• Manage common GI conditions (IBD, GERD, Celiac, IBS) and colorectal issues (diverticulitis, hemorrhoids).
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests (labs, imaging, pathology).
• Provide patient education regarding diseases, pre-operative care, and post-operative recovery.
2. Required Experience & Skills
• Experience: Prior experience in General Surgery is highly valuable. However, willing to train motivated new graduates.
• Certifications: PA-C (NCCPA Certified), NC State License, DEA registration, BLS/ACLS.
• Procedural Skills (Highly Desired): Experience with or willingness to be trained in: Suturing, I&Ds,
• Basic procedures (NG tube/Dobhoff placement, wound debridement).
