About Carnivore Snax
Carnivore Snax is a fast-growing, founder-led premium meat snack company built on two ingredients, zero compromises, and a mission to redefine healthy snacking. We are a small, high-performance team that moves fast, holds high standards, and takes pride in everything we produce. We are looking for an HR Manager who thrives in that kind of environment — someone who builds systems, supports people, and executes with excellence inside a founder-driven culture.
Role Overview
The HR Manager is the sole HR practitioner at Carnivore Snax and serves as the operational and strategic HR function for the company. This person is responsible for daily HR operations, compliance, employee relations, policy administration, and people processes across all departments. The HR Manager reports directly to the Co-Founders and operates as a trusted partner to leadership — executing the company's vision for its people, not defining it independently.
This is a hands-on, high-ownership role that requires someone who is equally comfortable building policy, handling a sensitive employee conversation, running a new hire orientation, and pulling a compliance report — sometimes all in the same day.
Core Responsibilities
HR Operations & Compliance
- Administer all HR functions including onboarding, offboarding, records management, and HRIS maintenance (UKG)
- Ensure ongoing compliance with federal, Ohio state, and local employment laws including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, PWFA, NLRA, USERRA, and EEOC requirements
- Maintain accurate and confidential personnel and medical records
- Manage workers' compensation claims, unemployment responses, and leave administration
- Conduct periodic audits of HR records, I-9 documentation, and policy compliance
- Stay current on employment law developments and proactively advise leadership on required changes
Employee Relations
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and conflict resolution
- Support managers in conducting corrective action and disciplinary processes in accordance with company policy
- Conduct thorough, impartial investigations of complaints including harassment, discrimination, and policy violations
- Administer the company's open door and conflict resolution process
- Partner with ownership on sensitive or complex employee relations matters before taking action
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding
- Manage full-cycle recruiting for hourly and salaried positions
- Develop and maintain job descriptions in partnership with department managers
- Coordinate structured onboarding programs for new hires
- Administer introductory period reviews and documentation
Policy & Process Administration
- Administer existing HR policies and standalone policy documents
- Identify policy gaps and propose revisions through a collaborative review process with ownership
- All new policies and material revisions to existing policies require Co-Founder review and approval prior to implementation
- Communicate policy updates to employees clearly and in a timely manner
Benefits & Payroll Support
- Administer ICHRA, 401(k), dental, and other employee benefit programs
- Serve as liaison between employees and benefit providers
- Support biweekly payroll processing and resolve payroll discrepancies in partnership with the payroll function
Training & Development
- Coordinate required compliance training (food safety, GMP, harassment prevention, safety)
- Support manager development around documentation, corrective action, and employee relations best practices
- Identify training needs and recommend solutions to leadership
Culture & Engagement
- Support a workplace culture consistent with Carnivore Snax core values: Hungry, Gritty, and Fresh
- Assist in planning employee engagement initiatives and company events
- Serve as a culture ambassador who models the standards expected of the team
Reporting Structure & Decision Authority
The HR Manager reports directly to the Co-Founders. The following decisions require Co-Founder approval before action is taken:
- Termination of any employee
- Issuance of final written warnings
- Settlement of any employee claim or complaint
- Creation or material revision of any HR policy
- Any accommodation determination that significantly impacts operations
- Any response to an EEOC charge, legal claim, or government inquiry
The HR Manager has independent authority to:
- Issue verbal counseling and written warnings in accordance with existing policy
- Approve or deny PTO requests within established policy guidelines
- Conduct intake conversations for employee complaints
- Manage day-to-day HR operations and administration
Qualifications
Required
- 3–5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 2 years as a solo or lead HR practitioner
- Working knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, Title VII, and Ohio employment law
- Experience supporting both exempt and nonexempt employee populations
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with HRIS systems; UKG experience a plus
- Reliable, consistent attendance record — references will be asked to speak to this directly
Preferred
- Experience in food manufacturing, production, or warehouse environments
- Familiarity with GMP, OSHA, and food safety compliance frameworks
- PHR or SHRM-CP certification
- Experience supporting a founder-led or entrepreneurial organization
Cultural Fit Requirements
- Operates comfortably within a defined authority structure and escalates appropriately
- Approaches leadership direction with a bias toward execution, not resistance
- Receives feedback constructively and models accountability for the broader team
- Communicates concerns through appropriate channels rather than lateral complaints
- Takes pride in building clean systems and thorough documentation
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive exempt salary commensurate with experience
- ICHRA health reimbursement benefit
- Dental insurance
- 401(k) plan
- PTO, vacation, floating holiday, and paid company holidays per Exempt Leader PTO & Attendance Policy
Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
