Staff Scientist will lead an independent scientific program in the field of astronomy with a particular emphasis on the study of planets around other stars. Design experiments that make use of the institute’s telescope facilities. Publish original research results in professional journals such as The Astrophysical Journal. Present research results at professional conferences such as the American Astronomical Society annual meeting. Apply for federal grants from agencies such as NASA and NSF in support of her research activities. Mentor undergraduate and graduate students working at the institute. Give public lectures to promote her work and the work of the institution to a broader audience. Support the institute’s educational activities such as astronomy nights in local K-12 schools. Will work in Pasadena, CA. International travel is required 25% of the time to gather data and attend conferences. Salary $152,000/year.
