The Graphic Design Manager at Kamin Science Center is a collaborative and creative role responsible for defining and translating the visual identity for Pittsburgh’s most visited museum. As the lead brand manager for the Science Center, the Graphic Design Manager develops and creates creative concepts across a wide range of outreach materials, including paid advertising; website, email, and social media graphics; short-format and promotional videos; internal and external signage; fundraising assets; and other collateral that helps to engage and expand our core audiences. Throughout each project, this role maintains visual consistency across all marketing channels through the creation of creative, on-brand assets that highlight key initiatives, including exhibitions, events, digital projects, programs, fundraising proposals, and more. In addition to playing a crucial and collaborative role within the Marketing team and all other internal teams, this role also independently manages external vendors for print, photo, video, and other related creative projects. The Graphic Design Manager thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment and provides strategic leadership for the overall design function, overseeing all elements of the creative process from brainstorming and development through production of materials, and creatively plans projects while strategically prioritizing key initiatives. The Graphic Design Manager reports to the Director of Marketing Operations. QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, marketing, digital media, or a related area; will consider commensurate experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience in graphic design or a related communications field. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Proven experience creating and managing content across a variety of marketing communication assets. Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite. Video editing experience using tools such as CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Canva video. Experience working with website content management systems. Strong writing and editing skills. Excellent attention to detail, grammar, and organizational brand guidelines. Experience leading design in large museums or other cultural organizations. Passion for science and STEM education. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is primarily sedentary in nature; no special demands are required. Candidates will be considered qualified if they can perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Manage and maintain brand standards throughout the organization across all marketing and communication channels. Create concepts and artwork for compelling paid advertising, digital, email, and print materials, PowerPoint presentations, internal signage, and other collateral that is consistent with Kamin Science Center’s brand and style guidelines. Develop creative, engaging ways to promote strategic initiatives, exhibitions, events, and experiences. Manage the creation of compelling short-format and promotional videos and website graphics that reach our target audiences. Guide all marketing design projects from start to finish, including research and development of concepts, approval of initial and final designs, and production with outside vendors. Procure production quotes and provide pricing options as appropriate. Collaborate with a wide range of internal and external teams to plan design projects and communicate the scope, challenges, and optimal method of production to meet the project’s goals, deadlines, and budget. Manage production processes with internal teams and outside vendors to assure that all projects deliver on time and within budget. Lead the approval process for all projects with both internal and external stakeholders. Manage and organize the museum’s library of photo assets to assure accessibility of images for internal and external requests. Take photos for key projects as needed. Support communications initiatives and Marketing team projects as needed. All other duties as assigned. Must have strong interpersonal communication skills and be able to relate to constituents at all levels of the organization. Must have attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines.
