The H. John Heinz III College at Carnegie Mellon University consists of two schools, the School of Public Policy and Management and the School of Information Systems and Management and offers an academic experience unlike any other. The Heinz College prepares students with an outstanding ability to conduct careful and objective analysis of relevant data, to understand and demonstrate the power of information technology, and to lead and implement change in managerial and policy contexts. We are seeking a community-minded Assistant or Associate Director of Diversity, Inclusion, Climate & Equity (DICE), depending upon experience, to join the team. In this role, you will play a critical part in fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive community at Heinz College. Together with the Associate Dean of DICE, you will aid in developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating creative programs that support inclusivity, diversity, equity, social change, and identity consciousness. Working under the supervision of and in close collaboration with the Associate Dean, your primary responsibilities will include: Supporting the design, development, implementation and evaluation of DICE identity and community-based programs grounded in proficiencies which cultivate a culture of inclusiveness and belonging for students, staff, and faculty. This can include coordinating cultural celebrations, affinity groups, and educational training for the community on a myriad of relevant topics. Overseeing the DICE student team; working with other identity-based student organizations at Heinz College and CMU. Assisting in identifying and implementing methods to improve the overall effectiveness of the experiences and resources offered to students, as well as identify ways to help to address students’ needs and concerns within the DICE domain. Evaluating and assessing effectiveness of DICE student programming and applying relevant evaluation data to revise or recommend changes in program objectives and overall strategic plan Collaborating and consulting with other committees, staff and departments within Heinz College and the campus community around DICE programming. You should demonstrate the following abilities: Working with historically underrepresented students, including international students, with an understanding of their strengths and needs. Coordinating programs and initiatives that foster equity and inclusion in a higher education or other relevant setting. Understanding of the dynamics of privilege and oppression, and the impact these have on equity, access, and opportunity in higher education/the workplace. Proven experience as a culturally responsive presenter and programmer of educational or outreach events, with applied knowledge of multicultural theory; expertise in content development, large and small group facilitation, designing and delivering content via in-person and virtual settings. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to manage conflict with cultural humility, maintain clear professional boundaries, and work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process. Attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines, optimally prioritize, self-manage, and tolerate ambiguity. Flexibility to work occasional evening and weekend hours. Ability to travel to various offices or other locations on campus, and off-site venues as needed. We value diversity, flexibility, and passion within Heinz College. A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered. A combination of 1-3 years’ experience in the following areas is required: Clear articulation of equity and inclusion work in a higher education - setting; Training, professional development, curriculum design focusing on Diversity, Equity, and/or Inclusion; Community engagement, outreach and group facilitation; Prior experience working in Higher Education or on a college/university campus is a plus. Associate Director: Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered. A combination of 3-5 years’ experience in the following areas is required: Clear articulation of equity and inclusion work in a higher education setting; Training, professional development, curriculum design focusing on Diversity, Equity, and/or Inclusion; Community engagement, outreach and group facilitation; Prior experience working in Higher Education or on a college/university campus is a plus.
