Description
Carnegie Mellon University seeks an Assistant Professor within our Department of Philosophy at our Pittsburgh, PA campus, responsible for teaching both undergraduate and graduate Philosophy courses, with a specialization in mathematical logic, as well as designing, executing and managing advanced research projects in the areas of algorithmic randomness, computability, algorithmic information theory, formal epistemology, and foundations of probability and statistics. Specific duties include: (i) designing, carrying out, and managing independent research, including conducting work that creates new knowledge and improves existing theories in the field and performing professional peer reviews of scholarly manuscripts; and (ii) providing graduate students with personalized research training and professional development, including mentoring students with respect to program and professional goals and actively working to ensure the success of the faculty governance model by providing support and leadership on key activities of the department.
Qualifications
Must have a Ph.D. degree in Philosophy or Logic.
Must have a demonstrated record of scholarly achievement in the Philosophy field, with a specific focus on logic or probability and statistics.
