Title of Position: Porter/ Lobby Attendant
Reports to Position: Manager, Building Services
Summary:
The Porter/ Lobby Attendant is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, safety, and the overall appearance of the lobby and common areas. This role serves as a visible presence to guests, visitors and staff, helping to create a welcoming and well-maintained environment. The Porter/ Lobby Attendant supports daily facility operation through cleaning, maintenance, and customer service-oriented assistance.
Key Responsibilities:
Porter:
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the lobby, entrances, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and polish floors as needed
- Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, doors, glass, and fixtures.
- Remove trash and recycling and replace liners
- Monitor lobby and entrance areas to ensure they remain neat and presentable
- Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply needs promptly
- Assist with setup and breakdown of furniture and equipment for events and meetings
- Replenish supplies such as paper goods, soap and sanitize stations
- Respond courteously to guest and staff questions and provide basic directions when needed
- Perform routine sidewalk cleaning, including sweeping and removing debris/snow to ensure safe and presentable exterior
Lobby Attendant:
- Greeting guests and visitors in a courteous and professional manner and directing them to the appropriate locations.
- Receive and coordinate guest arrivals and deliveries efficiently
- Operate the visitor management system and monitor CCTV to support building safety and access control
- Answer and route lobby phone calls promptly and professionally
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming lobby environment at all times
- Maintain a neat professional appearance and wear the required uniform while on duty
Elevator Operator (as needed):
- Operate the elevator during banquet and special events to support guest flow
- Assist with elevator service for food, floral, and supply deliveries to ensure timely and smooth transport
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- ability to bend, reach, push and pull as part of daily task
- Comfortable working indoors and at building entrances in varying conditions
- Ability to work scheduled assigned, including evening, overnights shifts, and potentially overtime, if and as required
- Ability to take direction, get along with others, work with a team spirit, and otherwise contribute to a professional working environment
- Ability to interact professionally with guests, visitors and staff
- Familiarity with basic desk-top computer tasks such as ability to use a mouse, point and click, and touch-screen functionality
Current schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 3-11PM
This position is covered under the SEIU Local 32BJ collective bargaining agreement.
The schedule can and does change periodically at Management’s discretion based on institutional needs, in which case who has what time slot is filled based on seniority, per the CBA.
