Sustainability, Climate, and Geopolitics Program

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a renowned international affairs institution, seeks a full-time Clean Energy and Geopolitics Fellow for its Washington, DC based Sustainability, Climate, and Geopolitics program.  Carnegie's Sustainability, Climate, and Geopolitics (SCG) program explores how climate change and the responses to it are changing international politics, global governance, and global security.

The Fellow will produce original policy-oriented research, including books, papers, policy briefs, and shorter pieces, as well as organize and participate in key forums, conferences, and convenings. Willingness to use and experiment with non-traditional media to disseminate research findings is a major plus. Active and consistent engagement with policymakers, private sector actors, journalists, and philanthropies is expected. This position will report to the Program Director. The Fellow will be expected to support the Program Director on fundraising for relevant work.

Substantively, the Fellow's work will focus on the geopolitical implications of the transition to clean energy, as well as the industrial, domestic, and foreign policies governments should pursue to accelerate transition. Candidates should have good working knowledge of clean energy technologies, including solar, wind, nuclear, and geothermal. A knowledge of clean energy finance and financial mechanisms being deployed to finance the energy transition is a major plus. A good regional understanding of the United States, China, and/or major economies in the Global South is preferred.

Position requires a master's degree or higher in a relevant field and a minimum of 4-5 years of work experience in policy, analysis, or research. Excellent writing and communication skills are a must. Comfort with data sets and quantitative analysis is a major advantage, along with familiarity with qualitative research methods. The willingness and ability to work on a team and to collaborate inside and outside the organization is essential.

The position, which includes generous health insurance benefits, will be based in Dupont Circle, Washington D.C. The anticipated salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000. Please note that this position will operate on a hybrid basis, requiring in-office work on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
