What are the responsibilities and job description for the BUTCHER SHOP SLICER/SANDWCH COOK position at Carne Diem Butcher?
NO LATE NIGHTS 4-DAY WORK WEEK DAILY STAFF MEAL SPLIT TIPS
Prior experience with Kitchen Prep or Cooking and a valid KCMO food handler's permit are required for this position. It is expected that applicants have the discipline to absorb their training and actively manage prep lists, ingredient pars, and cleanliness in the butcher shop. Reliable transportation to/from work and fluency in English are necessary as well.
Minimum 1 year kitchen experience required.
Must be able to follow directions to assist butchers/kitchen with tasks (including slicing).
Must have KCMO Health Dept. food-handler's card by start of employment.
Must be able to stand for 4 hours and lift 50 lbs. above your head.
UNIFORM (must purchase if not owned):
Nonslip Shoes, Jeans/Kitchen Pants, Carne Diem T-shirt (we provide 2 shirts), Head Covering (we provide 2 hats).
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Opening Responsibilities (flip cases, put away clean dishes, slice deli meats, etc.)
- Follow task lists to keep kitchen/butcher shop clean and organized
- Assist cutting steaks/deli meats & making sandwiches from the hot line menu
- Ring-up customers on Deli Counter POS system for checkout transactions
- Help butchers & kitchen staff with prep and packaging tasks
- Maintain dish pit (3-bay sinks & low-temp corner unit) flow & cleanliness
- Clean Butcher Shop Equipment, Walls, Surfaces, and Floors
(oven, smoker, slicer, band saw, grinder, dehydrator, walk-in, freezer, floors, surfaces)
- Help with Closing Responsibilities (wrapping meats, taking out trash/compost, etc.)
HOURS (will shift 1 hour earlier starting in OCTOBER):
THURSDAY 10:00am-8:00pm
FRIDAY 10:00am-8:00pm
SATURDAY 10:00am-8:00pm

Carne Diem is Kansas City's ONLY Butcher Shop butchering Beef, Bison, Lamb, Pork, Poultry, and Seafood from local farms/purveyors AND making our own deli meats in-house (Bacon, Ham, Pastrami, Sausage, Head Cheese, etc.) for Hot Takeout food. We are looking to expand our back-of-house team to meet increased demand and grow our output.
