The Category Buyer has responsibility for establishing and maintaining the relationship between key suppliers and Carmeuse Americas. The Category Buyer will perform strategic sourcing activities while working with other functions to insure superior cost, quality, and delivery objectives. Additionally, this position will be responsible for the administration of several procurement programs designed to promote departmental efficiency.

Additionally, this position will be responsible for the administration of several procurement programs designed to promote departmental efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Review category spend to determine which categories to pursue for opportunities
- Communicate with users of goods and services to align goals and strategies
- Conduct competitive sourcing events and evaluations in order to identify the best overall solution
- Ensure proper vendor selection through experience, market knowledge and formal bid evaluation
- Review, implement and manage contract documents with suppliers critical to our locations in order to limit risk to CNA and establish competitive rates and terms
- Continuous improvement - Explore new ways to identify cost reduction or value enhancement opportunities
- Manage supplier relationships
- Monitor market / supply base for potential changes to cost and availability. Communicate opportunities for improvement and also risks to management staff
- Work with Area Buyers to help assist in rolling out new contracts as well as understanding problems and roadblocks from CNA operations
- Complete quarterly / annual compliance testing to ensure global procurement procedures are being followed
- Maintain a customer-focused, service mentality and takes the time to understand the needs of the business
- Administer several strategic programs, including but not limited to: P-Cards, Vendor Portals, and KPI’s.
- Other tasks as defined by the Purchasing Manager
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or other applicable field
- 0-5 Years of relevant purchasing experience
- Maintain 100% commitment to safety policies and procedures
- Ability to manage multiple projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills
- High degree of business ethics and accountability
- Team player and strong interpersonal skills and working knowledge of business procedures
- Excellent negotiating skills and be familiar with contracts and contracting procedures
- Requires good judgment in making business decisions and handling confidential information
- Will present a positive, professional impression of Carmeuse
- Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- SAP or another ERP system experience a plus
- Required travel ~10-20%
- Understanding of best-in-class procurement practices (category management, benchmarking, RFPs, supplier evaluations, contracting, etc.)
- Basic types of commercial agreement structures and the function and purpose of key legal terms
- Experience in mining and/or heavy manufacturing industry is preferred
- Knowledge of continuous improvement philosophy and processes
- High energy; ability to handle multiple projects, demands, and changes. Possess strong organization and time-management skills

- Annual Base Salary range of $63,000 - $70,000
