Role Description This is a part-time, on-site School Bus Driver role based in Carmel, IN. The School Bus Driver safely transports students to and from school, field trips, and school-related activities while following established routes and schedules. Daily responsibilities include performing pre-trip and post-trip inspections, operating the bus in compliance with traffic laws and district policies, and maintaining a clean and orderly vehicle. The driver monitors student behavior, supports a positive and respectful environment on the bus, and communicates effectively with dispatch, transportation staff, and school administrators. The role also includes responding calmly to unexpected situations, reporting incidents or mechanical issues, and participating in required safety trainings and meetings.
Qualifications
- Commercial driving skills, including experience with Truck Driving and possession of a valid CDL Class B (with appropriate school bus and passenger endorsements, or willingness to obtain).
- Safe driving practices, including strong Defensive Driving skills and a commitment to student and community safety in all weather and traffic conditions.
- Interpersonal abilities, including clear Communication and Customer Service skills to interact professionally with students, families, and school staff.
- Ability to pass required background checks, motor vehicle record checks, and drug/alcohol screenings in accordance with district and state regulations.
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and the ability to follow established routes, schedules, and procedures with attention to detail.
- Physical ability to sit for extended periods, assist students as needed, and perform bus inspections, including entering and exiting the vehicle safely.
- Prior school bus driving experience or experience working with children is preferred but not required; training may be provided for qualified candidates.
