What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Paraprofessional position at Carlisle Public Schools?

Carlisle Public Schools is seeking paraprofessionals to work collaboratively with classroom faculty to support students in middle school grades who have IEP’s and are integrated within our general education classrooms. QUALIFICATIONS: •High school diploma required •Associates degree or a Bachelor's degree preferred •Prior experience working with students with disabilities is preferred •Training or coursework in special education is preferred •Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director of Student Support Services may find appropriate and acceptable REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support Services JOB GOAL: To work closely with students with disabilities in an effort to provide them with instructional and/or social emotional support as needed for effective progress, while assisting the special and general education staff in implementing IEP goals. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: (Under the direction and supervision of licensed educators who design instruction.) •Provide academic support and direct instruction to students to meet IEP goals/objectives. •Assist teachers with the implementation of appropriate curriculum, lessons, alternate assessments, accommodations and modifications for children with special needs. •Provide supervision of the classrooms during times in which the special educator is required to be elsewhere in the building. •Implement positive behavior management techniques and/or individual behavior support plans during individual and small group instruction and/or within the general education setting. •Attend planning meetings, in-service workshops/trainings, team meetings, and parent-teacher conferences when requested by the Program Administrator. •Consult with teachers, special educators, and therapists around designated students, on a regular basis, to discuss student progress and to support and carry over classroom and therapy goals and strategies. •Maintain knowledge and understanding of current IEPs of assigned student/s and collect data as requested. •Supervise students with disabilities outside of regular class times, including but not limited to the transition to and from transportation, lunch, recess, field trips, assemblies, emergency drills, and hallway passing. •Provide students necessary support while fostering and facilitating independence and positive self-concept. •Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions and responsibilities as a member of the teaching staff. •Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Student Support Services. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: •This position may require lifting, positioning, and transitioning students, as needed, according to caseload/classroom assignment. Demands for lifting may be up to 50 pounds.
