Carlisle Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and passionate grade 5 English Language Arts/Social Studies Teacher to join our dedicated team of educators, starting in 2026-2027. This Language Arts and Social Studies position will be part of a teaching dyad, and the new hire will partner with our existing math and science teacher in grade 5. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment and hold an unwavering belief that every student can grow and succeed. The candidate will also be able to engage and inspire middle school students in their journey to becoming effective communicators and critical thinkers. Applicants must have a comprehensive understanding of a literacy centered middle school curriculum and early adolescent development, and the ability to inspire and educate middle school students to achieve academic excellence. Primary Responsibilities: Teaching, Learning and Curriculum ●Foster a love for reading, writing, and effective communication through innovative and interactive instructional practices ●Create a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages student participation and collaboration. ●Utilize developmental understanding of young adolescents ●Implement and continue to improve a comprehensive English Language Arts and Social Studies curriculum for grade 5 students that aligns with the MA DESE English Language Arts and History and Social Science Curriculum Frameworks and also supports the Carlisle Public School’s stated vision, mission, and Portrait of a Graduate. ●Teach engaging lesson plans that support all early adolescent students by differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners. ●Integrate literacy and the humanities in relevant and meaningful projects. ●Scaffold support for students in complex thinking, rigorous academic work, and active participation. ●Build and sustain a productive and positive learning environment where every student participates and is valued as part of the class community. ●Create cognitively demanding tasks and model the belief that all students can master challenging material through effective effort. Assessment and Feedback ●Assess students’ understanding regularly with appropriate learning goals in mind ●Make adjustments to align with the requirements of IEPs and 504s. ●Regularly gauge student progress using a variety of assessments such as Star Renaissance Reading, MCAS, student work, and other formative and summative assessments. ●Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and ●collaborate with colleagues to analyze student assessment data for continuous improvement. ●Use assessment data to adjust instructional practices accordingly and to plan and implement strategic support in small group tier 2 settings. Collaboration, Parent, & Community Engagement ●Establish open and effective communication with parents/guardians to keep them informed about student progress and classroom activities. ●Actively participate in parent-teacher conferences and other related school events for the wider parent community. ●Actively engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in education. ●Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement within the English and Social Studies Departments to support student learning and growth using shared lesson materials and assessments. Qualifications: ●Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Education, English, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). ●Must hold a valid Massachusetts teaching license to teach grade 5, such as an elementary license (grades 1-6), or hold a middle school humanities license (grades 5-8), or hold both English (5-8) and Social Studies (5-8) teaching licenses. ●Strong knowledge of the MA History and Social Science standards and young adult literature, grammar, and writing conventions appropriate for early adolescent learners. ●Ability and desire to work collaboratively with colleagues and parents.
