Title: K-2 Self-Contained Special Education Teacher Assistant

FLSA:   Non-Exempt

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Special Education Classroom Teacher, the Special Needs Assistant provides general teaching assistance; provides classroom teaching assistance such as reinforcing skills and behaviors, academic instructions, and classroom activities. 

Reports to: 

Building level Administrator

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides support to students with special needs in a classroom setting.
• Assists the teacher in implementing lesson plans and individualized learning strategies.
• Helps students with daily activities, including academic work, social skills, and self-care tasks.
• Fosters a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
• Supports students with mobility, communication, and behavioral needs as required.
• Monitors student progress as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Communicates effectively with teachers, staff, and parents as directed by the classroom teacher.
• Ensures the safety and well-being of students at all times.
• Displays the ability to take directions and implement tasks effectively. 
• Performs other related duties as required. 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma (required).
• Associates Degree (60 College Credits) or Bachelor’s Degree

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, compassion, and a team-oriented mindset.

Working Conditions:

•  Office environment with limited exposure to environmental conditions.  Physical demands are restricted to general office activities requiring movement/lifting items weighing up to twenty-five pounds.  Routine local or regional travel required; occasional overnight travel required.  Requires ability to work under a degree of stress related to duties that require considerable attention and meeting deadlines.  Duties of the job require frequent use of a computer monitor and related equipment.

SALARY:

• District’s Teacher Assistant Salary Schedule (190-day contract)
