Product Engineering Technician

Carli Suspension
Elsinore, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 7/30/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/28/2026
Description:

Position Summary

The Product Engineering Technician supports the research and development of suspension systems through hands-on installation, removal, and detailed documentation of prototype parts and assemblies. This is an analytical role — not routine bolt-on work — requiring careful attention to process, data integrity, and iterative testing across multiple revision cycles. The technician works closely under the direction of Engineering and the Brand Lead, who provide training in Carli’s methodology and hold final approval authority on all R&D decisions. A capable, technically minded candidate will find room to grow here; this role operates with a balance of autonomy and structured, collaborative process. All tools and equipment are provided — candidates are not required to bring their own.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Prototype Installation & Evaluation

  • Install, remove, and reinstall prototype parts, suspension systems, and components as directed, following R&D-established procedures and Engineering guidance.
  • Participate in multi-revision test cycles — removing and reinstalling components between evaluations — maintaining organized records of each iteration.
  • Inspect parts to confirm they function as designed within vehicle and suspension system limitations, flagging concerns to Engineering before proceeding.
  • Assess and communicate observations on part fitment and function; sign-off recommendations require Engineering and Brand Lead approval.

Shock Tuning & Valving

  • Remove shocks from test vehicles, perform valve revisions as specifically directed by the Brand Lead, and reinstall for subsequent test evaluation. Repeat removal, revision, and reinstallation cycles across multiple rounds as the tuning process requires.
  • Record and maintain shock valving profiles and revision history in clean, organized digital files.

Documentation & Communication

  • Record measurements, clearances, procedures, and part history accurately and consistently throughout each test cycle — thorough documentation is a core expectation of this role.
  • Communicate findings, observations, and concerns to Engineering and the Brand Lead
  • Assist in developing Technical Instructions based on documented install experience.
  • Document process thoroughly at each step: tools used, photographs, and factory torque values sourced from factory service manuals.

Shop, Facility & Fleet Management

  • Maintain and organize the R&D area, tools, and equipment to support an efficient testing environment.
  • Assist with maintenance and repair of facility equipment and fleet vehicles.
  • Maintain a service log for fleet vehicles and support routine Preventative Maintenance scheduling.
Requirements:

Attitude can’t be trained. We’re looking for someone self-motivated with a positive attitude and a genuine passion for off-road — the kind of person who wrenches on personal projects in their spare time and wants to be at the cutting edge of the top brand in the HD Suspension segment. The right candidate brings real-world experience and enthusiasm for the industry and craft.

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant hands-on automotive/suspension work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to use hand and power tools proficiently, including lifts, jacks, and torque wrenches
  • Experience disassembling, evaluating, and reassembling suspension components (shocks, control arms, lift kits) to OEM or aftermarket spec
  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working within a structured, iterative test process (vs. one-and-done repair work)
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation — spreadsheets, digital photo logging, shared file organization
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to flag issues and describe findings to Engineering
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (role includes fleet vehicle maintenance and service log responsibilities)
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and work in physical positions common to suspension work (kneeling, working under a lifted vehicle, etc.)
  • Ability to safely operate shop equipment (lifts, air tools, torque equipment)
  • Comfortable working in a shop environment (noise, temperature variation, exposure to fluids/lubricants)
