The Thoma Foundation is seeking an Accountant to join our small, entrepreneurial family office in Dallas. This is a unique opportunity for an early-career accounting professional who seeks broad exposure beyond the traditional firm ladder—from nonprofit financial reporting to investment tracking to special projects with direct visibility to the principal.
This role is ideal for candidates with 2–4 years of experience in audit, tax, or accounting, especially those who have worked with private companies, nonprofits, or family offices at a middle-market firm.
Core Responsibilities:
- Support core accounting functions including accounts payable, payroll and reconciliations.
- Prepare financial statements with functional expense allocations and assist with GAAP reporting.
- Assist with annual budget preparation, monitoring actuals, and variance analysis.
- Provide year-end support to external accountants for tax filings and audit, including exposure to Form 990-PF.
- Collaborate with board of directors regarding the foundation cash flow and fund management.
- Update art database financial records.
- Perform special projects and other ad-hoc tasks as needed, such as managing bank relationship changes, research staff benefit plans, liability insurance plans, setting financial policies, foreign contractor and grant issues, sales tax exemption.
- Handle year-end 1099 and other quarterly reporting such as worker's compensation.
Requirements: Education, Experience, Certification, & Traits:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; recent Master of Accounting graduates encouraged to apply.
- 2-4 years accounting/finance experience, including financial planning and analytics.
- Experience with 990-PF or private foundation accounting with a family office setting a plus.
- Expert proficiency in Excel, Sage or QuickBooks.
- Resourceful, excellent researcher, and strong analytical skills.

- Strong collaborative skills to work effectively within a small team.
- Tech savvy with the ability to utilize digital file management software, payment processing tools, and trading platforms.
