Equestrian Groom and Caretaker

Job Summary

We have a work exchange position opening for a dedicated and passionate equine caregiver part-time (25 hours a week). Work is in exchange for a private furnished cottage on a family farm. The ideal candidate will have a love for horses and a strong commitment to their well-being. The job requires a reliable, self directed groom who takes direction well. The equine caregiver must work closely with the owner to maintain a safe and clean environment for 4 horses and 2 mini companions. One year commitment is mandatory. No salary is included in addition to the house.

Duties

• Stall cleaning.
• Feeding and watering of horses & mini friends according to specific dietary needs.
• Blanketing seasonally
• Fly Spraying
• Individual Turnout
• Maintain cleanliness of stables, paddocks, and equipment.
• Monitor horse behavior and health, reporting any concerns to owners and veterinarians.
• Clean and fill paddock water.
• Collaboration with team members to ensure a safe horsecare.

Experience

• Previous experience working with horses is mandatory.
• Skills in management and in the safe handling of horses are required.
• Reliability and own transportation are a must.
• Must be able to follow directions.

Compensation: This is a work agreement offering housing in exchange for part-time caregiving 5 days per week allowing time for alternative off site work, or school. Some weekend coverage is required. Vacation time is accrued based on 6 month and 12 month service completion. Onsite parking is available for 1 vehicle. Well behaved pets considered. (no aggressive dog breeds). We do not offer boarding for workers personal horses. Water and sewage are included. A wood pellet stove is provided for heating.
