Asst Director of Therapy
The Assistant Director of Therapy supports the Director of Therapy in managing and developing the therapy department within a home health agency. This role ensures delivery of high-quality therapy services in compliance with federal, state, and agency regulations.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Specific:
- Assist in planning, organizing, and directing therapy services (PT, OT, SLP) across home health settings.
- Supervise and mentor therapy staff, ensuring adherence to clinical standards and best practices.
- Monitor patient outcomes and satisfaction, implementing quality improvement initiatives.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary care plans with nursing and medical staff.
- Ensure documentation meets regulatory and reimbursement requirements (e.g., OASIS, 485 forms) through documentation audits and support of QA staff.
- Participate in staff recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training.
- Support intake and referral processes, including clinical review and acceptance of new patients.
- Support home health regulatory compliance, accurate documentation practices
- Provides physical therapy services to patients, to include but not limited to
- Evaluation and assessment of skilled therapy needs
- Creation of skilled therapy plan of care and participation in creation of total home health plan of care
- Initiates PT program and instructs and supervises therapy assistants to provide appropriate treatment interventions
- Provides ongoing assessment of skilled need and medical necessity and adjusts care plan and skilled interventions as appropriate
- Complies with accepted professional standards and principles.
Safety and Infection Control
- Maintain safe and sanitary environment by following established safety precautions and operating procedures in the performance of all duties to include practicing required infection control protocols
Training and Continuing Education
- Attends department meetings, all staff meetings, mandatory in-services and training
- Understand and use Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard and follow established infection control, hazardous communication and all safety rules
Company and Interdepartmental – Resident Rights and Workplace Safety
- Promptly report any evidence of resident abuse or violation of patient rights to the appropriate person
- Carries out delegated workplace safety activities and adheres to all company policies and practices regarding safety in the workplace
- As Assistant Director of Therapy you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited therapy program.
- Two years management or supervisory experience in a rehabilitation therapy department or program, preferably home care, preferred.
- Maintains current CPR certification.
- Licensed driver with automobile that is in good working order and insured in accordance with organization requirements.
- Demonstrates excellent observation, verbal, and written communication skills.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & DESIGNATIONS
- Current state license as a Physical or Occupational therapist or Speech/Language Pathologist.
- Must meet licensing/certification requirements as prescribed by city, state, and federal regulations
